Who doesn’t love a good game night? We certainly do in our household, which means I’m always on the hunt for fun, unique and entertaining games to play with our boys. The great thing about board or card games is that they bring you all together, and most of the time there is an educational aspect tied to them. They’re also the perfect way to stay entertained on rainy days or at times when you simply want to spend the night in.
Here are a few great options for games if you are looking to add some new ones to your current rotation or start making game night a part of your family tradition. You can find all of the games available for purchase on Amazon.com.
Ticket to Ride
This award-winning game is highly entertaining and a great way to kill some time, as you can expect to be playing for 30-60 minutes. You’ll be taken on a cross-country train adventure to collect and play matching train cars to claim railway routes through North America. The longer your route, the more points you will earn, and you can also earn additional points for things such as building the longest railway. There is also a simpler version of this game, called “Ticket to Ride First Journey” for younger children. This game is recommended for ages 8+.
Monopoly Gamer
This game is such a fun twist on the classic Monopoly game. If your kids are anything like our son, Gabriel, who plays video games, they will love the incorporation of the Nintendo theme. This particular edition features characters from Super Mario, and they have special powers that can be used throughout the game. Paper money is also replaced with coins to coincide with the video game. The ultimate goal is to defeat boss challenges against Bowser, and, in the end, the player with the most points wins. This game is recommended for ages 8+.
Scholastic Race Across the USA
I love a good game of strategy, and this fits the bill perfectly. It’s easy enough for kids to learn and challenging enough that adults have a great time, too. During this game, you will draw cards from your hand and place a chip on the corresponding space on the board. The goal is to have five objects in a row to make a sequence, but there is plenty of strategy involved where you can block your opponents and move their chips to put yourself at an advantage. This game is recommended for ages 7+
